John M. Grimes, CPA, CFE, CLPF, NCG

Owner with 30 plus years accounting experience combined with 20 plus years of estate and trust administration. Experienced in estate & trust tax matters, court accountings, the related probate code, forensic accountings and fiduciary responsibilities.  Qualified as an expert witness in estate and trust matters in multiple counties.  Continuing educational instructor as well as a consultant to various attorneys and other professional fiduciaries.  


Katrina Penland, Executive Assistant / Care Manager

Prior to coming to work with Grimes & Company, Katrina had 15 years of legal assistant experience with 9 years as a paralegal for various law firms. Katrina is a notary public and currently serves as the care manager for Grimes and Company clients. She is in the process of completing her requirements for being licensed as a professional fiduciary as she has met her 5 years of required internship experience. These attributes brings a valuable level of support in trust, estate, files, records, client relationship management and oversight.

Jackie Carroll, Staff Accountant

Jackie has been with Grimes & Company for 5 years now. Prior to that Jackie has 20 years of experience in the monetary services industry with 6 years of prior bookkeeping and tax experience. Jackie is well versed in preparing court & probate accountings, trust tax returns, bank reconcilements and labor law.

Brett Cloney, Staff Accountant

Brett  has a bachelor’s degree in economics from U.C. Santa Barbara and is currently completing additional post graduate upper division accounting courses. Brett is working on becoming a Certified Public Accountant and joining Grimes and Company will afford him the vital experience necessary to achieve this goal. His addition to the team will add depth and additional support to our clients.

Tina Bortolazzo, Administrative Assistant

Tina has a legal background that spans over 25 years. She has worked in various fields of the legal community including estate planning, business, real estate, civil litigation as well as several years of paralegal work in the business and real estate field. Tina's ability to coordinate, track and keep the office running smoothly is key to the overall success of our projects.
